Fine Hand Carving
We are pleased to offer a line of solid wood, hand-carved picture or mirror frames. Our frames are hand-fabricated with full hidden tenons in the corners, of kiln-dried cedar or mahogany. They are rabbeted on the back to receive the artwork (rabbet sizes indicated below). Each frame has a hand-planed removable back of ¼" thick solid wood, with beveled edges in the antique style.
We can also provide a beveled glass mirror in 16 x 20" size (oval or rectangular), turning the frame into a handsome antique-reproduction mirror.
We offer five styles of ready-made frames, stocked in standard sizes. These frames are finished with an old-time shellac finish over natural wood. Frames in stock are listed on the Ordering page.

Our Rococco Frame is richly hand-carved with a shell & flower motif. It is a wide, heavy frame suitable for a seascape or pastoral scene. It also makes a striking beveled glass mirror. This frame will add a rich, luxurious gleam to your home or office wall.
Oval Rococco Frame

Available with 16 X 20 bevelled glass mirror

Finish shown is shellac & glaze over dark-stained wood. Click for full size image.
Our Oval Oak & Cherry Frame is a faithful reproduction of a century-old "Arts and Crafts" style frame. The intricate filigree leaf design is completely hand carved in solid mahogany. The opening size is approx. 6" x 8", suitable for a portrait, mirror, or mini-landscape.
The frame can be wall-hung, or, for free-standing table or dresser-top display, a pencil-sized stick fits into a socket on the frame's back. This delicate frame will enrich any room's decor.

Our Oakleaf & Acorn Frame makes an especially handsome mirror; or can be used with any type of nature-based artwork. The nut & leaf pattern evokes the shade and sparkling sunlight of a deep forest. The acorn was also a staple food of some indigenous North American people, and is for some a sacred cultural motif. The frame is wholly hand fabricated of solid wood. We recommend the natural wood color finish.

This is a handsome hand-carved Art Deco frame, suitable for almost any artwork. In the larger sizes, the corner carving appears proportionally smaller.

This simple convex Art Deco frame is our most popular. It is suitable for all types of artwork, but especially for more modern prints and paintings.
Art Deco Oakleaf Frame

This frame style would be suitable for artwork involving the natural world. The corners are highly carved, and the molding is concave.
Simple Rococco Frame

This frame has a very simple border & corners. The hand-carved concave surface shows the carving tool-marks. Finished with shellac over bare wood, and gold paint highlights on the border
There are many thousands of Art Deco and Art Nouveau designs that are suitable for hand-carved reproduction. Please send us a picture of any piece you would like to adapt or reproduce and we will be glad to consult.
Other sizes of frames are available on request. The frames can be supplied unfinished, stained dark and shellacked, or treated with a rubbed-off glaze over the shellac which gives an antique appearance.
In addition, we will copy any frame or carving style at your request, working from the original, from close-up photos, or from detailed drawings. We will also adjust the design of any frame to fit any size or shape of your artwork, so that the corners match gracefully and the frame will keep its proportion and balance.
